Depression significantly affects the functioning and quality of life of individuals. According to the World Health Organization, more than 280 million people worldwide have this disorder, which is one of the leading causes of disability. Its impact extends to the family, social and occupational spheres, increasing the emotional and economic burden on caregivers. In this context, bibliotherapy emerges as an effective and accessible intervention tool in psychotherapy. Studies suggest that reading specific texts can help improve the understanding and management of depression, facilitating adherence to treatment and promoting empathy. This article analyses the novel Una actriz real as an example of applied bibliotherapy, exploring its impact on patients, mental health professionals and close ones. Through its narrative, the book makes visible the subjective experience of depression, allowing readers to identify with the protagonist’s symptoms, thoughts and emotions. Reading facilitates the development of empathy in health professionals, fostering a better therapeutic relationship and reducing social stigma. It is concluded that bibliotherapy, applied through Una actriz real, can be a complementary tool in the treatment of depression, promoting self-exploration and raising awareness in the person’s environment.
