Abstract

Introduction: in February 2008, the Aragonese Health Service of the Autonomous Community of Aragón launched, within the Teruel Mental Health Hospital, the Medium-Stay Unit (MSU) of the Mental Health Area, whose purpose is to provide comprehensive health treatment to rehabilitate the user so that they can reintegrate into the biopsychosocial environment after discharge. This study aims to describe the profile of the user attended and to assess the quality of the data collection protocols, as well as to relate the variables studied. Material and method: the sample is made up of 92 cases (47 men and 45 women), who were admitted from February 2009 to December 2014. From the clinical histories, 15 variables considered significant were collected, covering the socioeconomic, socio-health management and clinical areas. Results: we can conclude that the profile of the user attended is that of a patient aged between 31 and 50 years, coming from the short-stay unit, suffering from a psychotic disorder, staying in the centre between 6 and 12 months, living accompanied at home, not on depot treatment at admission, and presenting the nursing diagnoses of “Ineffective management of the therapeutic regimen” and “Self-care deficit/bathing and/or dressing”. Discussion: knowing the most frequent profile of the user of this type of setting allows us to improve the care resource.
